Pune: A critical stretch of National Highway 61 through the Malshej Ghat corridor has been closed to traffic after continuous monsoon rainfall triggered a road collapse near Karanjale village in Pune district’s Junnar taluka. The disruption has severed a major road connection between western Maharashtra and the Mumbai metropolitan region, highlighting the growing vulnerability of transport infrastructure to increasingly intense rainfall events.

Authorities suspended movement of all vehicles along the affected section as a precaution after a substantial portion of the carriageway gave way.
