Pune: Continued monsoon-related closures on key ghat roads connecting Pune with the Konkan region have disrupted public transport services, forcing commuters to depend on private vehicles while affecting tourism, local businesses and regional mobility. The prolonged restrictions have left travellers from southern Raigad and western Maharashtra facing longer, costlier journeys, highlighting the need for climate-resilient transport infrastructure across Maharashtra’s vulnerable hill corridors.
Several important mountain routes linking Pune with Poladpur, Mahabaleshwar and Satara remain either fully or partially inaccessible following landslides, falling trees and unstable slopes caused by persistent rainfall. Small hotels, roadside restaurants, local markets and tourism-dependent enterprises have witnessed declining customer numbers during what is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods. Reduced visitor movement has affected livelihoods across communities that depend heavily on seasonal tourism and inter-district travel.
