Pune Flight Passenger Faces Case After Emergency Exit Attempt

A 33-year-old passenger from Pune district is facing a police case after allegedly trying to operate an emergency exit on a Delhi–Pune flight while the aircraft was in the air, according to a complaint filed by an airline employee.

The case was registered at Pune Airport Police Station against the Saswad resident under Section 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 25 of the Aircraft Act. Police have also served a notice on the passenger.

According to the complaint, the incident occurred at around 12.30 am on November 2, when the passenger was travelling from Delhi to Pune. He allegedly attempted to operate the emergency exit without permission from the cabin crew.

The complaint was filed by Omkar Vinod Kulkarni, 28, an employee of a private airline. It alleges that the passenger’s actions could have endangered people on board and breached restrictions governing access to the aircraft’s emergency exit.

Emergency exits are intended to be operated only by authorised airline personnel when required. The reported incident has therefore been treated as a violation of onboard safety procedures, with the police case bringing the matter within the framework of aviation and criminal law.

The police have identified the passenger as a resident of the Saswad area in Pune district. The complaint does not disclose what prompted the alleged attempt, and further details about the incident have not been made public.

The case follows the registration of the complaint at Pune Airport Police Station. The passenger has been served a notice as the police proceed under the sections cited in the complaint.
