Pune FDA Office Loses Internet, Phone Services Over Unpaid Bills

Internet and telephone services at the Food and Drug Administration’s Pune divisional office in Moshi have remained suspended for eight days after Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited disconnected the connections over unpaid bills, forcing employees to use personal mobile internet for routine official work.

The disruption has affected the office’s ability to handle official correspondence, exchange information and carry out other administrative activities. The Pune divisional FDA office oversees work across Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur districts.

According to the report, the payment problem has recurred several times in recent months. Services are restored only after the senior office releases funds for administrative expenses and the outstanding bills are cleared. Delays in receiving those funds have repeatedly resulted in disconnections.

Girish Hukare, joint commissioner, FDA (Drugs), Pune division, said the office had informed senior officials about the need for funds to meet its expenses. “Internet and telephone services will be restored soon. Although these services are currently unavailable, other office work is continuing,” he said.

The interruption has required officials and employees to rely on mobile internet connections on their personal phones. The arrangement has allowed other office work to continue, but has also highlighted the dependence of government offices on regular operating funds for basic communication services.

The Moshi office’s connectivity is used for communication with officials, information exchange and routine administrative coordination. Repeated outages could affect coordination between the divisional office and the five districts under its jurisdiction, although the report does not specify any particular service delay or public-health consequence resulting from the current disruption.

Business representatives visiting the office said funds should be released regularly to prevent recurring interruptions. Local residents have also raised concerns about how they can contact the FDA office during urgent situations while its telephone and internet services remain unavailable.

The FDA has said services will be restored soon. The report does not provide a specific restoration date or details of the outstanding bill.
