Pune Central Markets Hit by Daytime Goods Transport Ban

Pune traffic police have barred goods vehicles from entering several central market areas during the day, restricting loading and unloading to between 11 pm and 9 am from October 26 to November 12, 2026. The temporary measure has been introduced to reduce congestion and pedestrian inconvenience during the Diwali shopping season.

The Pune central markets goods transport ban covers busy commercial areas including Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, Kelkar Road, Bajirao Road, Tulshibaug, Mahatma Phule Mandai, Bohri Ali, Raviwar Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Ganesh Peth and Tapkir Galli, besides other adjoining central areas.

Under the restriction, shops in these markets may receive goods through light commercial vehicles only between 11 pm and 9 am. Goods vehicles will not be allowed to enter the market areas for loading or unloading between 9 am and 11 pm throughout the enforcement period.

Traffic police said the decision followed increased customer movement in the central shopping districts ahead of Diwali. The affected areas attract large numbers of shoppers during the festival period, while daytime deliveries have added to congestion and made movement difficult for pedestrians, according to the traffic authorities.

The order places the operational burden of rescheduling deliveries on traders, transporters and vehicle operators. Businesses that traditionally receive stock during trading hours will have to coordinate overnight or early-morning deliveries, while vehicles entering the restricted areas during the prohibited period could face enforcement action under the traffic restrictions.

Traffic Police Deputy Commissioner Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare appealed to traders and drivers to follow the specified timings. The authorities have not announced any change to the restriction period or any separate daytime access window for goods vehicles in the information available.

The temporary order covers the period from October 26 to November 12, keeping the restriction in force through the main Diwali shopping window. Enforcement is therefore focused on balancing commercial deliveries with the movement of shoppers and pedestrians in Pune’s most crowded traditional market streets.
