Pune Airport recorded 1.10 crore passengers in 2025-26, marking a rise of about 30 lakh travellers in three years and placing fresh pressure on the city’s aviation infrastructure and connectivity network. Passenger traffic increased from 80.07 lakh in 2022-23 to 1.10 crore in 2025-26, a cumulative rise of approximately 37 per cent, according to official Airport Authority of India data cited in the report.
The airport handled 95.25 lakh passengers in 2023-24, followed by 1.04 crore in 2024-25 and 1.10 crore in 2025-26. The sharpest year-on-year increase was recorded in 2023-24, when traffic rose by nearly 15 lakh passengers compared with the previous year. Passenger numbers increased in every year covered by the four-year data.
The growth comes as Pune’s direct air network expands across domestic and international routes. The airport currently has direct flights to three international destinations—Bangkok, Dubai and Abu Dhabi—and 34 domestic destinations, according to the report. SpiceJet, IndiGo and Air India Express operate the international services mentioned in the report.
Eight scheduled airlines connect Pune directly with cities including Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Chandigarh, Kochi, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Rajkot, Hubballi, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jalgaon, Jodhpur, Kishangarh, Kolkata, Lucknow, Nagpur, Nanded, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Sindhudurg, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara and Varanasi. The network includes services to both major metropolitan centres and smaller regional airports.
Four routes—Jalgaon, Kishangarh, Nanded and Sindhudurg—are being served under the central government’s Regional Connectivity Scheme, or RCS-UDAN. These services are intended to connect smaller cities with Pune and, through the airport’s wider network, with other parts of the country. The routes also show how Pune is functioning as a regional aviation link rather than only as a destination for metropolitan travel.
The airport’s reported operating scale includes around 100 departures and 100 landings each day, or approximately 200 aircraft movements. Passenger throughput is estimated at about 35,000 people a day, while the airport has 10 aerobridges and connectivity to around 40 cities. The figures indicate the operational significance of the airport for Pune’s residents, businesses and surrounding urban region.
A new terminal has also been made available at Pune Airport, with modern passenger facilities introduced as part of the airport’s development. The stated focus is on improving passenger convenience and experience while strengthening domestic and international connectivity.
Union Civil Aviation Minister Murlidhar Mohol said the increase of about 30 lakh passengers over three years and the crossing of the 1.10 crore mark reflected growing demand for air travel from Pune and the airport’s expanding capacity. He said efforts would continue to strengthen the airport’s capacity, facilities and connections in line with the city’s requirements. The next stage of Pune’s airport expansion will therefore be measured not only by passenger growth, but also by the ability of facilities and routes to keep pace with that demand.
