Coursera has unveiled Project Helix, an artificial intelligence-powered skills platform designed to create personalised learning pathways for employees, while also announcing a management education partnership with IIM Bangalore. The announcements were made at the FWD 2026 annual event jointly organised by Coursera and Udemy.
Project Helix is intended to help employees build skills aligned with business requirements. According to the information shared at the event, learners will be able to describe their goals in ordinary language, after which the platform will generate an AI-based learning pathway tailored to those objectives.
The platform is expected to become available to enterprise customers in the first half of 2027. Ashutosh Gupta, managing director for India and Asia Pacific at Coursera, said the use of AI tools was growing rapidly and that Project Helix would help integrate learning into daily work while giving employees greater confidence in applying relevant skills.
The announcement places Bengaluru and Karnataka within a larger shift in how companies and workers access professional training. The state has 4.3 million Coursera users, the report said, making it the platform’s third-largest user base in India. It also said that, on average, one person in Karnataka enrols in a generative AI course every two minutes.
A total of 750,000 people in the state have enrolled in generative AI courses, according to the figures cited at the event. Data analysis and machine learning are also reported to be among the skills drawing strong demand in Karnataka. These numbers indicate the scale of interest in AI-related learning, although the announcement did not provide a breakdown of users by city, employment status, age group or course completion rates.
Coursera also announced an agreement with IIM Bangalore’s IIMBx Digital Learning Foundation, known as IIMBx, to expand access to management education for students globally. Sitaraman Shankar, chief executive officer of IIMBx, said the partnership would bring courses in entrepreneurship, data-driven decision-making, digital marketing, public policy and fintech to the Coursera platform in the coming period.
The partnership comes after Coursera’s recent merger with Udemy. Coursera, which began operations in 2012, and Udemy now operate as a combined online learning platform that the report said has more than 300 million learners and over 12,000 enterprise customers worldwide. Project Helix’s proposed enterprise launch in 2027 will determine how the platform translates individual learning goals into structured training within organisations.
