PMRDA Demands Plan to Expedite Metro Line 3

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has issued a directive to the concessionaire of the 23km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro Line to develop a comprehensive micro-plan aimed at accelerating the project’s progress. With only 68% of the work completed ahead of the March 2025 deadline, this move is intended to address the current delays and ensure the project remains on schedule.

A senior PMRDA official confirmed that the authority has requested a detailed timeline for the completion of the remaining work. “The pace of progress is currently a concern. The micro-plan will outline the tasks for the next seven months to get back on track,” the official stated. With the assembly elections approaching, the PMRDA is keen to adhere to project timelines to prevent any further delays. “At this stage, we should have completed around 88% of the total work. Hence, the concessionaire must prepare a robust ‘catch-up’ plan,” the official added. One of the critical components of the Metro Line 3 project, the integrated flyover extending from Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) Chowk to the E-Square junction, is expected to be finished by the end of November. This marks a delay from the original deadline of August 15.

In contrast to the phased opening of the city’s other two Metro lines, Line 3 is slated for a full public launch in April 2025, reflecting the growing demand from commuters. The PMRDA’s directive underscores the urgency of resolving the project’s delays, which are crucial not only for meeting the upcoming deadline but also for addressing the transportation needs of Pune’s rapidly growing population. The comprehensive micro-plan is anticipated to provide a clear pathway to overcoming current setbacks and achieving the timely completion of this vital infrastructure project.
