Pune’s pet aficionados can rejoice as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) unveils its latest endeavour – an effortless online renewal mechanism for pet licenses, slated to launch imminently.
This innovative move by PMC seeks to streamline the process of renewing licenses for both canine and feline companions, catering to the needs of the city’s pet guardians. Approximately eighteen months ago, PMC pioneered online registration for pet dogs and cats, a development warmly embraced by the community.
Expanding upon its prior success, PMC now reveals plans to implement online renewal services for pet licenses, aiming to bolster accessibility and convenience for pet enthusiasts. As disclosed by officials from the PMC veterinary department, the renewal fee for each pet will stand at a nominal Rs 25, with comprehensive details accessible via the PMC website. Previously, the department introduced online pet registration in November 2022, requiring a one-time fee of Rs 500 for a decade-long tenure, equating to a mere Rs 50 per annum. The forthcoming renewal feature will be prominently featured on the PMC website, ensuring a seamless experience for pet guardians. Noteworthy is the significant participation from dog owners in the online registration initiative, with 3,522 dog licenses issued. Conversely, only 162 cat owners availed themselves of the licenses. Post-registration, licenses are typically processed within a span of 20 days, prompting pet guardians to renew their licenses upon expiration. Initially, this renewal process was conducted in-person, ward-wise.
