OpenSpace, a global leader in 360° reality capture and AI-powered analytics, has introduced OpenSpace BIM+, a suite of user-friendly 3D tools that aims to expedite BIM coordination on construction sites. This marks the third product release from OpenSpace, which leverages cutting-edge technology to empower project teams and accelerate workflow efficiency. OpenSpace BIM+ builds upon the success of OpenSpace Capture and OpenSpace Track, enabling field teams and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) teams to work collaboratively and efficiently. The announcement was made during the Waypoint customer conference, where OpenSpace showcased its commitment to revolutionising the industry through innovative solutions.
OpenSpace BIM+ provides an array of tools designed to streamline BIM and field coordination workflows, helping project teams solve problems more quickly and effectively. One of the key features is BIM analysis tools, enabling field teams to navigate and analyse BIM on-site and compare it to the actual construction progress. This feature allows any team member to access the BIM model easily, review model elements overlayed within 360° photos, and even work offline using their iPhone, iPad, or Android devices. Furthermore, OpenSpace BIM+ facilitates the storage, viewing, analysis, and sharing of point cloud data from mobile and terrestrial laser scanners and OpenSpace’s 3D Scan feature, consolidating reality capture data in a centralised location.
Efficient coordination is crucial in construction projects, and OpenSpace BIM+ includes features that enable teams to align design intent with on-site conditions, expediting responses, approvals, and project schedules. The popular field note feature from OpenSpace Capture has been integrated into BIM workflows, allowing field teams to add detailed images and notes during site walks or from their desks. OpenSpace BIM+ also enables streamlined workflows with leading BIM coordination tools like Revizto, Navisworks, and BIM Track through BCF file export. This comprehensive coordination support empowers teams to address challenges swiftly and effectively.
Keeping the BIM model up-to-date is crucial for smooth design and construction processes, ensuring all stakeholders can access the most current information. OpenSpace BIM+ simplifies model management by providing features such as Autodesk model import, support for multiple models, and model usage reporting. These capabilities contribute to streamlining workflows and enhancing collaboration between project teams.
While BIM has gained widespread adoption among design and engineering professionals, its utilisation in the field has been limited due to complexities and required skill sets. OpenSpace BIM+ aims to bridge this gap by offering powerful yet user-friendly BIM tools. OpenSpace observed that its customers were actively using the BIM Compare feature within OpenSpace Capture, indicating a higher rate of BIM adoption compared to the industry average. Recognising this demand, OpenSpace developed OpenSpace BIM+ to help drive BIM utilisation among teams that are already embracing and investing in BIM.
OpenSpace plans to launch an early access program for OpenSpace BIM+, allowing selected customers to experience its benefits firsthand. Customers like Swinerton, a renowned construction company, are eager to explore the potential time savings and enhanced problem-solving capabilities that OpenSpace BIM+ offers. Breawn Felix, Regional Support Services Manager at Swinerton, expects OpenSpace BIM+ to empower her field teams by addressing inquiries directly from the site, thereby reducing time-consuming exchanges during issue resolution.
