Noida To Get New Expressway Connecting Jewar Airport And Delhi

Centre has approved a new 30-km expressway linking Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, and the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar. The proposed corridor will run parallel to the existing Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, tracing the Yamuna River and connecting Pushta Road with both the Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressways.

Officials emphasise that the new expressway is intended to serve as a high-capacity bypass, allowing direct access to Jewar Airport from Delhi without adding to the growing congestion on the current Noida Expressway. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is expected to oversee the project, ensuring long-term durability, upgraded design standards, and efficient fund utilisation. Delhi-NCR has witnessed significant infrastructure development, with projects worth Rs 1.2 lakh crore underway. Approximately Rs 60,000 crore of work has been completed, while a further Rs 40,000-50,000 crore is earmarked for future initiatives. Experts note that the expressway forms a key component of the region’s broader plan to streamline vehicular movement, reduce travel time, and support sustainable urban transport.

Currently, the 25-km Noida-Greater Noida Expressway accommodates nearly five lakh vehicles daily, including around two lakh via the DND Flyway and one lakh each from Chilla Border and Kalindi Kunj. Additional traffic enters from central Noida sectors, leading to frequent peak-hour congestion. Officials project that the new expressway will significantly ease this load and improve regional mobility, particularly for airport-bound traffic. The project also addresses prior shortcomings of the Yamuna Pushta Road, a section of which opened in 2014 but quickly deteriorated due to safety issues and substandard design. Authorities now plan to implement robust construction techniques, including durable surfacing, improved drainage, and traffic safety measures, under NHAI supervision.

The timing of the expressway’s development aligns with the imminent opening of Noida International Airport at Jewar, which is expected to begin domestic and cargo operations in September 2025, with international flights commencing by November 2025. Officials indicate that the airport’s full potential can only be realised with seamless road access, further highlighting the expressway’s strategic significance. Experts also underline the environmental dimension, noting that upgraded traffic corridors can reduce fuel consumption and emissions by minimising stop-and-go congestion, contributing to more sustainable urban transport in the NCR.

Once completed, the expressway is expected to become a critical artery supporting both passenger and cargo mobility, decongesting existing roadways, and complementing other infrastructure initiatives in Delhi-NCR. Authorities continue to coordinate among Noida, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway authorities to finalise cost-sharing arrangements, while awaiting formal NHAI approval to commence construction.
