The Noida Aqua Line Metro is set to run every six minutes during weekday peak hours, while late-night services may be extended until 11:25 pm to improve connectivity for passengers travelling between Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi.
The proposed changes are being prepared by the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), according to its executive director Kranti Shekhar Singh. The revised schedule could be introduced from November 1, although the report describes this as a proposed implementation date rather than a confirmed start date.
At present, trains on the Noida-Greater Noida corridor run at intervals of about seven and a half minutes during the morning and evening peak periods from Monday to Friday. The planned change would reduce the interval by one and a half minutes, bringing the frequency to one train every six minutes.
NMRC officials said 13 metro trains currently operate on the route, with one additional train kept in reserve. Each train can carry up to 1,322 passengers across all its coaches. Outside weekday peak hours, services currently operate at 15-minute intervals. The proposed plan is focused on the period when passenger demand is highest.
The existing weekend schedule is different. Trains run every 10 minutes on Saturdays and every 15 minutes on Sundays, according to NMRC. The report does not indicate any change to these weekend intervals.
The proposed increase in frequency follows a rise in ridership on the Aqua Line. NMRC data cited in the report shows that the corridor has carried as many as 100,000 passengers in a single day, while average daily ridership has been between 85,000 and 97,000 passengers. Higher passenger volumes during peak hours have led to increased crowding at stations and inside trains, prompting the frequency proposal.
The corporation is also preparing to extend the operating hours of the corridor. The Aqua Line currently runs from 6 am to 10 pm. Under the proposed schedule, trains could depart from Noida after 10 pm at 10:20 pm, 10:40 pm, 11 pm and 11:25 pm, with the last departure from Noida planned for 11:25 pm.
The extended service is linked to passenger transfers between the Aqua Line and Delhi Metro’s Blue Line. The Blue Line’s last train towards Noida reaches Sector 52 at 11:08 pm. The Aqua Line’s Sector 51 station is located close to Sector 52, allowing passengers to transfer between the two systems. The schedule is also being considered in the context of late-night travel between Delhi and Noida’s Sector 63 Electronic City, which can take passengers until around 12:30 am from Dwarka.
NMRC has started preparations to put the revised schedule in place. A final confirmation of the implementation date and the complete operating timetable is awaited.
