Several parts of SPSR Nellore district received heavy rainfall on November 5, but the district’s cumulative rainfall deficit remained at 31 per cent since June 1, according to the latest district rainfall report cited by Deccan Chronicle. Ten of the district’s 36 mandals recorded no rainfall during the day.
Marripadu received the highest rainfall at 72.6 mm, followed by Nellore Rural at 67.4 mm, Kavali at 53.8 mm and Ananthasagaram at 43.8 mm. The showers were concentrated in parts of the district, leaving rainfall distribution uneven across the mandals.
The district recorded an average of 29 mm of rainfall in November so far, against the normal 49.4 mm for the period. This represents a 41.3 per cent deficit for the month, the report said.
Of the 36 mandals, 30 have been classified as deficient in rainfall and six have received normal rainfall. No mandal has recorded excess rainfall. The classification reflects the continuing gap between actual precipitation and the normal rainfall expected for the period.
Between June 1 and November 5, Nellore received 418.4 mm of rainfall against the normal 606.6 mm. The resulting shortfall was 188.2 mm, equivalent to a 31 per cent deficit. The figures cover the principal rainfall period since the beginning of June and show that the latest heavy showers have not offset the cumulative gap.
Varikuntapadu recorded the highest cumulative rainfall deficit in the district at 57.2 per cent. Kondapuram followed with a deficit of 52.4 per cent, while Jaladanki recorded a shortfall of 51.7 per cent.
The district’s rainfall performance was also below normal in October. It received 166.7 mm during the month against the normal 242 mm, resulting in a deficit of 31.1 per cent.
The latest figures show a sharp contrast between isolated heavy rainfall events and the broader district-level deficit. While some locations received more than 40 mm on November 5, the absence of rain in ten mandals and deficient conditions in 30 mandals indicate that the showers were not distributed evenly across SPSR Nellore.
The district rainfall report will continue to provide the basis for tracking rainfall conditions across the mandals. The next assessment will show whether further showers reduce the cumulative shortfall or whether the district remains below its normal rainfall pattern.
