Nekkonda Railway Disruption Ends After Pole Rescue Operation

Railway services on the Warangal–Vijayawada route were disrupted for nearly two hours after a man climbed an overhead electric pole near Nekkonda in Telangana on Wednesday, prompting railway staff and police to cut power and carry out a rescue operation.

The man, identified as Sultan Javed, was eventually brought down safely after authorities spoke to him and persuaded him to leave the pole. Police and railway sources cited in the report said he had threatened to die by suicide over his wife’s refusal to return home.

Javed, a daily-wage labourer from Karimnagar district, had reportedly been living separately from his wife for about four years. According to the report, he travelled from Warangal to Nekkonda on the Golconda Express while allegedly under the influence of alcohol before climbing the electric pole near the Food Corporation of India godowns close to Nekkonda railway station.

He reportedly demanded that his wife be contacted and persuaded to return home. The location of the incident near railway infrastructure created an immediate electrical and operational safety risk. Railway staff disconnected the power supply and alerted the police after he climbed the pole.

Local police, Government Railway Police personnel and railway officials reached the site and began the rescue effort. Residents gathered near the location during the operation, further affecting the movement of some trains on the Warangal–Vijayawada route.

The incident illustrates the operational consequences of an emergency near electrified railway infrastructure. Disconnecting the overhead power supply was necessary for the rescue, but it also meant that train movement through the affected section had to be managed while the operation continued. The report did not specify the number of trains delayed or the total duration of disruption for individual services.

After Javed was brought down, authorities took him into custody and kept him under supervision overnight. He was shifted to MGM Hospital in Warangal on Thursday morning for medical and psychological assessment and treatment, according to sources cited by the report.

The immediate rescue was completed without a reported injury to the man. The next steps identified by the authorities were his medical assessment and treatment under supervision.
