The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has embarked on a comprehensive expansion project for its dental hospital located on Chanakyapuri’s Dharam Marg.
This strategic initiative, sanctioned in March and recently set into motion, aims to augment healthcare capacity, optimise service delivery, and alleviate the burden on medical personnel. With the average monthly patient influx surging from 7,558 in 2022 to 8,580 presently, the strain on resources and personnel has become increasingly palpable. As highlighted by NDMC officials, the current roster of 16 doctors faces significant challenges in managing patient flow, particularly during dental procedures that necessitate time-intensive care and may encounter unforeseen complications. Consequently, protracted waiting periods not only exacerbate patient dissatisfaction but also exert undue pressure on medical staff.
The expansion plan encompasses multifaceted interventions designed to enhance operational efficiency and bolster patient care standards. Foremost among these measures is the procurement of advanced healthcare equipment tailored to facilitate laser treatment, paediatric care, and routine dental procedures. Additionally, the recruitment of senior medical professionals specialising in oral surgery, root canal treatment (RCT), and paediatric dentistry is slated to streamline service provision and optimise resource utilisation. Despite the anticipated benefits accruing from this expansion endeavour, NDMC acknowledges the associated financial implications, projecting an annual expenditure of Rs 1.1 crore. Nevertheless, the council remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare services for residents and visitors alike, prioritising the well-being of the community above all else.
Upon the cessation of the model code of conduct, NDMC plans to seek requisite financial approvals from its council and initiate the tendering process to expedite project execution. Concurrently, efforts are underway to develop a sustainable staffing model that enables seamless rotation of medical personnel to cater to the burgeoning patient caseload. Established in 2009, the NDMC dental hospital serves a diverse clientele, including NDMC staff, their families, and the general public. By embarking on this ambitious expansion initiative, NDMC endeavours to fortify its position as a premier healthcare provider, committed to delivering exemplary dental care services and fostering community well-being.
