Along with passenger facilities, Central Railway has assumed responsibility for associated assets including forecourts, commuter parking areas, electrical systems, telecommunications infrastructure and operational utilities required for day-to-day station management.
The Navi Mumbai station transfer reflects the gradual transition from infrastructure creation to long-term railway operations. Urban transport specialists note that while development agencies often play a key role in financing and constructing transport assets, transferring completed infrastructure to railway operators enables unified maintenance, operational planning and service delivery under a single institutional framework.
