Navi Mumbai Opens 59 Health Centres and 650-Seat Auditorium

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation inaugurated 59 Urban Health and Wellness Centres and a 650-seat auditorium at its CBSE School No 94 in Koparkhairane on October 20, expanding neighbourhood healthcare access while adding a new civic venue for educational and cultural programmes.

The facilities were inaugurated through a videoconference by Maharashtra Forest Minister Ganesh Naik during a Dussehra event attended by Navi Mumbai Mayor Sujata Patil, former Member of Parliament Sanjeev Naik, NMMC House Leader Sagar Naik, Health Committee Chairman Dr Jayaji Nath and other civic officials.

The auditorium is located on the fourth floor of the NMMC CBSE School No 94 in Sector 11, Koparkhairane. The fully air-conditioned facility has seating for 650 people and includes a 650-square-foot stage, acoustic treatment, sound and lighting systems, and a screen for audiovisual presentations.

NMMC House Leader Sagar Naik described the auditorium as a Dussehra gift to Navi Mumbaikars and said the infrastructure at civic schools now matches that of leading private schools. Sanjeev Naik said the venue could provide an alternative to the Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium for sociocultural events.

The 59 Urban Health and Wellness Centres have been launched across the NMMC jurisdiction under the National Urban Health Mission and the 15th Finance Commission. The centres are intended to bring primary healthcare services closer to residents’ homes and reduce the need to travel for treatment of minor illnesses.

According to the details provided by the civic body, the centres will treat ailments such as fever and colds, while also providing maternal and child healthcare, routine immunisation and basic blood tests. They will offer screening and counselling for lifestyle-related conditions, including diabetes and hypertension.

The new network is focused on primary and preventive care rather than specialised hospital treatment. Former MP Sanjeev Naik suggested integrating teleconsultation services at the centres to improve access to medical advice. The civic administration has not provided, in the supplied report, details about staffing levels, operating hours, patient capacity or the specific locations of all 59 facilities.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ganesh Naik congratulated the NMMC on the development of its civic schools and said the health centres would help residents access care for minor health issues closer to home. Mayor Sujata Patil said the civic body remained committed to providing facilities across sectors and linked the health initiative with NMMC’s broader education and civic-development work.

Patil also referred to the corporation’s introduction of English-medium education from the nursery level, saying the initiative was intended to give children from different backgrounds a strong start. The NMMC has urged residents to use the auditorium and the newly inaugurated health centres.
