Navi Mumbai is set for a major traffic overhaul on October 8 as authorities impose a temporary ban on all heavy and multi-axle goods vehicles across the city. The restriction, effective from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., comes ahead of the highly anticipated inauguration of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The measure aims to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimise congestion during the high-profile event expected to draw numerous dignitaries and large crowds.
According to traffic officials, the prohibition covers the movement, entry, and parking of all types of heavy vehicles within the Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate limits. The ban is designed as a preventive step to maintain operational efficiency and ensure that commuters experience minimal disruption while the inauguration is underway. Authorities emphasise that the restrictions will not impact essential services. Emergency vehicles, including police cars, fire brigades, ambulances, government vehicles, passenger transport buses, and vehicles directly involved with the inauguration, will be exempt from the ban.
