Nashik Command and Control Centre Gets Rs 30 Crore Kumbh Push

The Nashik Municipal Corporation has floated a Rs 30 crore tender to establish a new command and control centre at the rural police headquarters in Adgaon, as the city prepares technology-led security and civic management systems for Kumbh Mela 2027. The facility will integrate surveillance, traffic and crowd-management systems across Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.

According to the tender document, the selected agency will supply, install, integrate, test and commission the command centre infrastructure, and will also be responsible for its operation and maintenance. The last date for submitting bids is October 31. Civic officials plan to issue the work order by mid-November so that implementation can begin early.

The proposed facility will receive feeds from CCTV cameras and other surveillance systems planned for the Kumbh areas. The network is expected to cover the mela grounds, ghats, approach roads, transit hubs, accommodation facilities and parking zones spread across Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.

The technology package will include artificial-intelligence-enabled CCTV surveillance, advanced video analytics, automatic number plate recognition, crowd-density monitoring, drone surveillance, smart parking management and intelligent traffic management systems. Data from cameras, drones, sensors and Internet of Things devices will be brought together on a common platform, allowing officials to monitor incidents on geographic information system-based maps and initiate responses under standard operating procedures.

An NMC official said the Adgaon centre would serve as a key operational hub for security, surveillance and civic management. It is planned to work alongside Nashik Smart City’s existing command centre at the city police commissioner’s office and a proposed command and control centre in Trimbakeshwar. Together, the facilities are expected to form the central monitoring and response mechanism for the Kumbh congregation.

The next Kumbh Mela is expected to draw a larger crowd than previous editions. Authorities estimate that around eight to 10 crore pilgrims could visit Nashik city, while approximately four crore are expected to travel to Trimbakeshwar. The event will formally begin with Dhwajarohan on October 31, with the three major Amrit Snans scheduled for August 2, August 31 and September 12, 2027.

The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority has approved the project for implementation through the municipal corporation. The work will be executed by the Nashik Smart City Development Corporation, which operates under the NMC. Officials have also indicated that the command centres and surveillance network are intended to remain operational after the festival for public safety, traffic management and wider urban monitoring.

The immediate milestones are the October 31 bid deadline, the proposed issuance of the work order in mid-November and the subsequent integration of the new centre with the existing Nashik Smart City facility and the planned Trimbakeshwar centre.
