Nampally Railway Station modernisation has reached nearly 20 per cent completion, with parking facilities, electrical substations, residential quarters, the air concourse and a metro-connected skywalk progressing under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme in Hyderabad.
Railway officials said the works are advancing according to schedule. The redevelopment of Hyderabad Deccan Railway Station is being implemented at an estimated cost of Rs 327.27 crore and is targeted for completion by December 2027.
The station handles an average of 50 trains and approximately 25,000 passengers a day. The project is intended to expand passenger facilities and reorganise access, circulation and supporting infrastructure at one of Hyderabad’s busiest railway terminals.
On the northern side of the station, the B1 and B2 basement parking facilities, along with the AC Coach Maintenance Office building, have been completed. The old residential quarters in that area have also been demolished.
Construction on the southern side includes the foundation for basement parking, 11 kV and 33 kV substations, and Type-2 residential quarters. Fourteen of the 54 foundations planned for the station’s air concourse have been completed. The old building on the eastern side is also being removed as part of the redevelopment works.
The proposed air concourse will measure 72 metres by 90 metres and span the tracks and platforms. A nine-metre-wide skywalk or foot overbridge, fitted with travellators, is planned to provide direct connectivity between the railway station and Nampally Metro Station. Pillar construction for the metro-connected link is currently underway.
The redevelopment plan also includes a new G2 main station building on the eastern side and modernisation of the western entrance. Underground parking is planned for 145 cars, with electric vehicle charging facilities included in the design.
Passenger-facing facilities proposed under the project include 16 lifts, eight escalators, two travellators, food courts, shopping areas, Wi-Fi access and CCTV-based security systems. The station is also planned to receive 875 kWp of solar panels and green-building certification.
The planned metro connection is expected to link the railway station more directly with Hyderabad’s urban transit network once the relevant construction is completed. The next milestones identified in the ongoing works include further progress on the air concourse foundations, basement parking, substations, residential quarters and the skywalk structure, with the overall redevelopment scheduled for completion by December 2027.
