The Delhi Police is planning five new police stations to secure the Delhi–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, including major stations and multimodal transport hubs, according to a report by Live Hindustan. The proposed network is intended to handle law-and-order duties outside stations, parking-area incidents, criminal investigations and emergency coordination around the regional rapid transit system.
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has nearly completed the framework for the proposed stations, the report said. The plan follows a security audit that recommended dedicated police stations at five strategic locations connected to the Namo Bharat network and wider inter-city transport system.
The proposed locations are Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Kashmere Gate, Mukarba Chowk and the Indira Gandhi International Airport area. Sarai Kale Khan is the corridor’s main terminal, while Anand Vihar is a major multimodal hub on the Delhi–Meerut route. The planned police network is also being designed with future Namo Bharat corridors towards Panipat and Alwar in mind, according to the report.
Security responsibilities will be divided between the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Delhi Police. The CISF will be responsible for station premises, checking points and platforms, following a model similar to metro security arrangements. The report said these locations will use modern, artificial intelligence-enabled screening equipment.
The Delhi Police will handle areas outside the stations, including parking zones, public-order issues and the registration and investigation of criminal cases. The five stations are expected to form part of the Delhi Police’s proposed multimodal transport security grid, linking the Delhi Police, railway police and CISF for real-time information sharing during emergencies or potential security threats.
The arrangement is being introduced in stages because construction of the permanent administrative buildings will take time. In the interim, NCRTC is supporting temporary police booths and outposts near the stations. A police post has already started operating near Gate 2 of Anand Vihar Namo Bharat station under the jurisdiction of the Patparganj Industrial Area police station, the report said.
The proposed structure assigns security responsibilities according to the physical layout of a transit hub: CISF inside controlled station areas and Delhi Police in the surrounding public spaces. For passengers, the immediate operational change will be the availability of police assistance closer to high-footfall stations while the permanent stations are developed. The next steps are the completion of the station framework and construction of the proposed administrative facilities.
