Namma Metro helped transport a kidney from Jalappa Hospital in Kolar to Fortis Hospital in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru, completing the metro journey between Benniganahalli and Attiguppe stations in 37 minutes, according to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials.
The kidney was carried on a train that departed from Benniganahalli station at 2.58pm and reached Attiguppe station at 3.35pm. The metro journey formed part of the transfer required to move the organ quickly to the Fortis hospital in Nagarabhavi.
The movement highlights the role that Bengaluru’s urban rail network can play in time-sensitive medical transport. Organ transfers require coordinated movement between hospitals and transport systems, and the use of a metro corridor provides a scheduled connection across the city without depending entirely on road traffic conditions.
BMRCL officials said the kidney transfer was the latest in a series of lifesaving organ movements supported by Namma Metro. Before this operation, the network had been used to transport one liver, four hearts and one pair of lungs.
Including the kidney transported in this latest operation, Namma Metro has assisted in the movement of seven lifesaving organs, the officials said. The figure covers the organ transfers identified by BMRCL and reflects the metro system’s involvement in medical logistics beyond its regular passenger transport function.
The journey between Benniganahalli and Attiguppe was completed within the stated 37-minute period, with the departure and arrival times recorded by the metro authorities. The report does not provide further details about the medical teams involved, the handover arrangements at either station or the road transport used before and after the metro journey.
BMRCL’s account places the latest operation within an expanding record of organ transportation through the city’s metro network. Further organ movements and related arrangements would depend on coordination between hospitals, medical teams and the metro authority.
