Nagarkurnool Orange Alert: Heavy Rain and 90 kmph Winds Expected

Nagarkurnool district has been placed under an orange alert from 8.30 am on November 2 to 8.30 am on November 3, with heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds expected, District Collector Hemanta Keshav Patil said in an advisory reported by Deccan Chronicle.

Wind speeds during the alert period may reach 60–90 kmph, increasing risks for people travelling on roads and those near trees, electric poles and hoardings. The district administration has urged residents to follow advisories issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and take necessary precautions.

Residents have been asked to avoid unnecessary travel while the orange alert is in force. The advisory also directs people to stay away from trees, electric poles and hoardings, and to avoid open areas during lightning. These precautions are intended to reduce exposure to falling objects, electrical hazards and lightning during thunderstorms.

People living in low-lying areas have been asked to remain alert. The advisory did not specify particular localities or announce evacuations, but residents in vulnerable areas have been urged to monitor official updates and be prepared to respond to changing weather conditions.

The district administration has also asked residents to keep livestock in safe places. The instruction covers animals that may otherwise remain exposed in open areas during heavy rain, strong winds and lightning.

A yellow alert has been issued for Nagarkurnool for November 3 and November 4, extending the period during which residents may need to monitor rainfall and weather advisories after the orange-alert window ends. The administration has not provided details in the advisory on expected rainfall totals, road closures, school operations or local shelter arrangements.

The alert comes as the weather system identified in the source report as Cyclone Murasu brings the possibility of severe weather conditions to the district. Residents have been advised to rely on IMD updates and district administration instructions rather than undertake unnecessary movement during the warning period.

For emergencies, residents can contact the Nagarkurnool district helpline at 9866756825. The district administration’s advisory remains focused on precautionary steps, including limiting travel, avoiding exposed locations and protecting livestock during the orange and subsequent yellow alert periods.
