Mysuru Dasara Injury Spurs Demand for ₹25 Lakh Aid

A Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti faction has demanded that the government raise compensation for Shishira, a girl injured during a police lathi charge while watching the Mysuru Dasara Jambu Savari, from the announced ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh.

Shankar, district president of the faction established by Dadasaheb N. Murthy, made the demand at a press conference in Mysuru on Sunday. He said Shishira is the daughter of a sanitation worker and is still undergoing treatment for the injuries she suffered during the Dasara procession.

According to Shankar, the ₹5 lakh compensation announced by the government has not yet reached the family. He said the family had already spent ₹3 lakh on hospital treatment, placing it under financial strain.

The organisation said the injury could create health problems for the child in the future. Shankar argued that the government should provide higher compensation so that the family does not face continuing financial hardship and the child’s future is protected.

The demand follows the reported use of police force during the Jambu Savari, one of Mysuru’s major public events, which draws large crowds to the city. The report did not provide details of the police action, the exact nature of the child’s injuries, or the government order under which the ₹5 lakh compensation was announced.

Shankar said representations would be submitted to the Chief Minister, the district in-charge minister, the deputy commissioner and the Mysuru city police commissioner. The organisation’s office-bearers N. Manjunath, S. Raju, Raghavendra, Swamy Hadjan and Girish were also present at the press conference.

The immediate issues raised by the demand are whether the announced compensation has been formally released, how the child’s medical expenses will be addressed, and what administrative response will follow the representation to state and district authorities.
