MVSR Truss Collapse: 22 Students Discharged, One Still in Hospital

Twenty-two of the 23 female students injured in the truss collapse during a dandiya event at MVSR Engineering College in Hyderabad have been discharged from hospital, while one student remains admitted with a spinal cord injury, according to a report by Deccan Chronicle.

Three students were discharged on Wednesday, including Shravya, who had been treated in an intensive care unit. The latest discharges follow the release of 13 students on the day after the October 17 incident and six others in the subsequent days.

Akshara is the only student still hospitalised. She continues to receive treatment for a spinal cord injury sustained in the collapse. The report did not provide further details about her treatment timeline or expected date of discharge.

Among those discharged on Wednesday was Meena, who suffered head injuries that required stitches. Her sister, Sona, died from injuries sustained in the incident, but the family has not yet told Meena about her death, her father Ashok Narayanadas said.

Ashok said the sisters had been close since childhood and had joined MVSR Engineering College together after securing seats there. He said the family would allow Meena to decide whether she wanted to continue her studies. According to him, the college management paid the family ₹50 lakh following Sona’s death.

Shravya, who suffered a spinal injury and required intensive care, was returning to her hometown after being discharged. Her father, Ramaswamy R., said doctors had advised her to take bed rest for two months and avoid turning to either side. The family purchased a special bed costing ₹9,000 to support her care at home.

The family has asked the college management to reimburse the expenses involved in caring for Shravya and to provide continued medical support. Ramaswamy said her condition remained serious and that she needed appropriate treatment and assistance to recover and return to her studies.

The incident has left families managing not only immediate medical needs but also longer-term recovery, education decisions and financial costs. The latest update confirms that most of the injured students have left hospital, but ongoing treatment and care remain necessary for those who suffered serious injuries. Akshara continues to receive treatment for her spinal cord injury.
