The Musi Reservoir in Telangana has received heavy inflows, taking its water level to 638.30 feet against the full reservoir level of 645 feet, with authorities warning that the gates may be opened at any time as a precautionary measure.
The reservoir currently holds 2.84 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) of water, compared with its total storage capacity of 4.46 TMC. The timing of any gate opening will depend on the volume of inflows into the project, according to the report.
Authorities have urged residents in potentially affected villages not to enter the river and to stay away from nearby areas. The advisory covers parts of Suryapet and Nalgonda districts, including villages located in the downstream mandals of the reservoir system.
In Suryapet district, the affected mandals are Suryapet, Penpahad and Palakeedu. Villages listed as potentially affected include Ratnapuram, Ramavaram, Hanuman Thanda, Venkatramapur-Tekumatla, Nandyalagudem, Konkathimmana, Annaram, Circlepeta, Kasarabada, Anajipuram, Anantharam, Dosapahad, Sajjapuram, Gantavarigudem, Ellaram, Somavaram, Chintakuntla, Pulagambanda Thanda, Musi Oddu, Singaram, Ellapuram and Shoonyapahad.
In Nalgonda district, the affected mandals are Kethepally, Madugulapally and Miryalaguda. The listed villages include Boppaaram, Kasanagode, Chikatigudem, Kothapeta, Uppalpahad, Koppolu, Bheemaram, Amanagal, Lakshmidevigudem, Ravulapenta, Rajapeta, Narsimhulagudem, Thakkellapadu, Kalvapally, Allagadapa, Rayanipalem, Mulakala, Kalva, Keshavapuram, Tuntunkuntavilla, Vadapally and Wazirabad.
The warning follows heavy rainfall in Hyderabad during the early morning hours. Begumpet recorded 95.5 millimetres of rain, while Tirumalagiri received 95.0 millimetres. Several other parts of the city also reported significant rainfall.
Residents in the listed areas have been asked to follow official advisories and avoid riverbanks and nearby locations until the inflow situation and reservoir-gate operations become clear.
