Mumbai Traffic Alert: Bhandup Road Shut, Mulund Parking Curbed

Mumbai traffic movement will face major changes in Bhandup East and Mulund West from October 30, 2026, with the Mumbai Traffic Police announcing a road closure for water pipeline work in Bhandup and an experimental odd-even parking system in Mulund.

The Bhandup East restrictions will remain in force until May 31, 2027, according to a traffic police notification. The closure is required to facilitate the replacement and diversion of an old water pipeline along Harishchandra Dadu Kopkar Marg near the MD Keni Marg junction.

The affected stretch runs from the State Bank of India to the railway gate and Veer Savarkar Marg. The southern channel of Harishchandra Dadu Kopkar Marg will be completely closed to vehicular traffic while the work is under way, the notification said.

The order was issued under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, by Pradeep Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Eastern Suburb Traffic, Mumbai. The provision enables traffic authorities to regulate or restrict vehicle movement when required for traffic management and public works.

Motorists travelling through the affected Bhandup East stretch will be diverted through MD Keni Road, Kamal Sagar Society, 90 Feet Road, 30 Feet Road, Udayshree Road and Veer Savarkar Marg. Commuters using the route have been advised to follow the designated diversion and allow additional time for their journeys during the pipeline replacement work.

In a separate measure, the traffic police will introduce an experimental odd-even parking system on Baba Maharaj Singh Marg in Mulund West. The road connects Dr RP Road with DC Das Road. The notification said parking on both sides of the road had been causing severe congestion, prompting the trial arrangement to regulate parking on alternate sides.

The Mulund parking system will also begin on October 30, 2026, but will remain in force until January 29, 2027. Parking will be permitted according to the date on the Gregorian calendar: vehicles may park on the left side of the road on even-numbered dates and on the right side on odd-numbered dates.

Parking for all types of heavy vehicles will be prohibited along Baba Maharaj Singh Marg during the experimental period. Motorists have been advised to comply with the parking rules to avoid inconvenience and support smoother traffic movement in Mulund West.

The two measures place separate operational requirements on motorists: drivers using the Bhandup East corridor will need to follow the notified diversion for several months, while those using Baba Maharaj Singh Marg will need to check the date before parking. The restrictions are scheduled to remain in effect until the respective end dates specified in the traffic police notifications.
