Maharashtra’s urban transportation landscape is witnessing significant advancements as Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, along with Deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Eknath Shinde, conducted a crucial technical inspection of Metro Route 9, specifically focusing on the stretch from Dahisar (East) to Kashigaon.
This inspection underscores the state government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity and alleviating traffic congestion in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). During the inspection, Chief Minister Fadnavis highlighted the transformative impact Metro Route 9 will have on the daily commute for residents of Mira Bhayandar and those travelling from Mumbai. He emphasised the overarching goal of achieving seamless connectivity across the region, stating, “The trial phase of the Mahamumbai Metro 9 is being completed today. This Metro 9 will greatly benefit Mira Bhayandar and those coming from Mumbai. This phase is from Kashigaon to Dahisar. We want to achieve seamless connectivity.”
Fadnavis also drew attention to a unique engineering feat incorporated into the project, revealing that this is the first time in the Mumbai Metro rail network that a double chamber structure is being constructed. He explained that this innovative design, where the metro and train bridge are integrated into a single structure, is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion. He further outlined the state’s ambitious plans to extend Metro Route 9 to Virar and integrate all metro lines, aiming for completion by the end of 2027. This integrated approach to metro development signifies a long-term vision for a more efficient and interconnected urban transit system. In addition to the metro inspection, Chief Minister Fadnavis inaugurated two significant rail infrastructure projects via video conferencing: the first cable-stayed road bridge at Reay Road and the Titwala Road Over Bridge. These projects represent another crucial step towards improving Mumbai’s transportation network. Fadnavis noted the aesthetic and functional benefits of the newly inaugurated cable-stayed bridge at Reay Road, stating, “The first cable-stayed Road over Bridge (ROB) has been inaugurated. A very beautiful, aesthetic cable-stayed bridge is visible, people will benefit a lot from this.” He also highlighted the completion of the Titwala Road Over Bridge, acknowledging the commendable work of the Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (MRIDC), also known as MahaRail.
MRIDC announced the completion and inauguration of these two Road Over Bridges (ROBs), marking a significant milestone in their ongoing efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure across Maharashtra. These projects are part of MahaRail’s broader strategy to develop state-of-the-art transport solutions that cater to the evolving needs of Mumbai’s rapidly growing population. These simultaneous developments in both metro and rail infrastructure underscore the Maharashtra government’s proactive approach to addressing the city’s pressing transportation challenges. The integration of metro lines, coupled with the construction of new road over bridges, is expected to significantly improve commute times, reduce traffic congestion, and enhance overall connectivity. These projects are vital components of a larger strategy aimed at creating a more sustainable, efficient, and equitable urban transportation network for Mumbai and its surrounding regions.
