The renewed weather warning comes as civic agencies intensify preparedness measures to minimise the impact of intense rainfall on one of India’s most densely populated metropolitan regions. The IMD has placed Mumbai, Thane and Raigad under an orange alert, indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds that could reach speeds of 50–60 kmph at isolated locations. Weather forecasts also suggest the possibility of localised flooding in vulnerable pockets, particularly in low-lying neighbourhoods where drainage systems are typically placed under significant pressure during intense monsoon spells.
