Monsoon Set to Hit Maharashtra in Three Days

Pune: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast suggesting that the monsoon is likely to arrive in Maharashtra within the next three days, with an increase in rainfall activity expected over the coming weekend. This announcement comes as the state prepares for the onset of the annual monsoon season, with Pune and Mumbai potentially experiencing the first heavy rain spells around June 10-11, close to the normal onset dates.

According to IMD officials, the Konkan region and parts of Madhya Maharashtra, including Pune, are anticipated to witness moderate to heavy rainfall starting from June 7, with intensified showers expected on June 10. A heightened orange warning for June 9 indicates the imminent onset of monsoon rains over Pune and Mumbai, coinciding with the traditional arrival dates for these cities. The forecast further predicts fairly widespread to widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds ranging from 40-50kmph across Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra from June 7 to June 10. Isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada during specific periods, with the potential for very heavy rainfall in certain areas.

IMD’s latest update also suggests favourable conditions for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon into various regions, including south Maharashtra, south Konkan, and parts of Karnataka, within the next few days. A weather forecasting official from IMD Pune highlighted the significant pre-monsoon showers witnessed recently, indicating the imminent arrival of the monsoon season in Maharashtra. The impending monsoon is expected to bring relief to the region, with increased moisture levels and the development of a shear line conducive to monsoon advancement. The anticipation of a wet weekend underscores the importance of preparedness and precautionary measures to mitigate any potential impact on infrastructure and public safety.

As Maharashtra awaits the arrival of the monsoon, residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their well-being amidst the anticipated rainy spell. With the onset of the monsoon, the state can expect a refreshing respite from the scorching summer heat, heralding the beginning of the annual rainy season in the region.
