Manoj Tiwari Assures Delhi Residents of Waterlogging Solutions

Delhi’s perennial waterlogging issue has once again come to the forefront.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari has expressed confidence that the party’s proactive measures will alleviate the problem, ensuring that residents will “forget” about waterlogging by the end of this rainy season. Tiwari attributed this optimism to the BJP’s hands-on approach, contrasting it with the previous AAP government’s alleged inaction. He emphasized that all BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Rekha, are actively involved in ground-level operations, unlike their AAP counterparts who, according to Tiwari, remained distant during their tenure. “Every leader, including the CM, is on the ground contrary to what their (AAP) leader used to do, remaining in their houses,” Tiwari remarked.

In response to the recent heavy rains that caused significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city, Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Verma conducted an on-site assessment. He highlighted the deployment of four pumps near Minto Bridge to address the stagnant water. Verma also noted that drain cleaning operations had commenced within 65 days of the BJP assuming governance. However, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticized the BJP’s efforts, accusing the current administration of neglecting infrastructure maintenance. AAP leaders pointed out that areas like Minto Bridge, which had been removed from the PWD’s list of waterlogging hotspots, were once again inundated after the recent rains. They questioned the BJP’s preparedness and response to the situation.

The Minto Bridge underpass, a notorious waterlogging hotspot, has historically faced flooding issues, with some reports dating back to the 1950s. Despite previous assurances and measures, the area continues to be prone to water accumulation during heavy rains, raising concerns about the effectiveness of long-term solutions. In the face of these challenges, the BJP has directed all its Members of Parliament and Members of the Legislative Assembly in Delhi to remain on the ground during the monsoon season. They are tasked with ensuring that waterlogging issues are promptly addressed and that residents’ concerns are heard and acted upon. This initiative underscores the party’s commitment to resolving the city’s infrastructure challenges through active leadership and community engagement.

As Delhi braces for the monsoon, the effectiveness of these measures will be closely monitored. The residents’ experiences and the city’s ability to manage waterlogging will likely influence public perception and political narratives in the coming months.
