Mangaluru Electrolyser Plant Opens With 20 MW Capacity

A new electrolyser manufacturing plant with an annual production capacity of 20 MW has begun operations at Ganjimath on the outskirts of Mangaluru, marking a new manufacturing development linked to the growing hydrogen economy.

The facility was inaugurated on Thursday by Dakshina Kannada MP Captain Brijesh Chou ta and MLA Dr Bharat Shetty, according to a report by Prajavani. The plant is intended to meet rising demand for equipment used in hydrogen production.

Electrolysers use electricity to produce hydrogen and are a critical part of hydrogen production systems. At the Ganjimath facility, 250 kW-capacity anion exchange membrane and proton exchange membrane electrolysers were also unveiled. The report said these systems were designed, assembled and tested in Mangaluru.

The plant’s stated annual capacity is 20 MW, while the unveiled equipment represents a 250 kW-capacity product line. The report did not provide details on the facility’s investment value, workforce size, customer agreements or the date on which commercial production began beyond stating that operations had commenced.

Speaking at the inauguration, Brijesh Chouta said the development was aligned with the “Back to Uru” concept, which seeks to encourage professionals and entrepreneurs to return to their home regions and contribute to regional development. He said company growth could strengthen the local economy and create employment.

Michael Graysilles, co-founder and president of Hydzen, said the company’s Hydzen Innovation Day was intended to encourage open discussion, practical learning and new partnerships. He said the process would support product development and decision-making within the company.

The event was attended by Transition VC founder Mohammed Shoaib Ali; AAGM founder and chief executive officer Avishek Kumar; Hydzen chief technology officer Gautham Kumar Dalapathi; chief operating officer Krishna Kumar; and corporate director Ramyashree D S.

The facility places electrolyser manufacturing within Mangaluru’s wider industrial landscape, but the information available in the announcement does not establish its expected output markets, energy source, order book or planned expansion. The company’s immediate next steps, as described at the event, include product development and the pursuit of partnerships through its innovation activities.
