The Maharashtra government has initiated the long-awaited conversion of the historic Pachora-Jamner railway line from narrow gauge to broad gauge.
This ₹568.86 crore project aims to modernise the 53.3-kilometre stretch, enhancing transportation efficiency in the Khandesh region of Jalgaon district. The Pachora-Jamner railway line, established in 1919 during the British era, has long been a vital link for local communities, particularly benefiting the agricultural sector. The upgrade to broad gauge is expected to significantly improve the movement of goods and passengers, reducing travel time and operational costs.
Ashoka Buildcon Limited, a prominent infrastructure company, has been awarded the civil contract for this project. The scope of work includes the construction of earthworks, major and minor bridges, road underbridges, and other civil engineering tasks. The project is slated for completion within 30 months, marking a substantial step towards enhancing the region’s railway infrastructure. This development aligns with the central government’s broader initiative to modernise India’s railway network. In the 2024-25 interim budget, ₹300 crore was allocated specifically for the gauge conversion of the Pachora-Jamner line, underscoring the project’s national significance.
