Madhya Pradesh on Red Alert as Heavy Rains Lash State Yellow Alert for Delhi Rain Orange Alerts Across India

Madhya Pradesh is grappling with intense monsoon activity, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue red and orange alerts for several districts. The ongoing wet spell is expected to continue until July 13. On Wednesday, Seoni, Balaghat, and Mandla were placed under a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall, while nine other districts, including Jabalpur, Chhindwara, and Hoshangabad, remain under an orange alert.

The forecast indicates continued rainfall through the week, with a broader yellow alert covering most of the state. The IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds accompanying the rains, making conditions especially dangerous in central India.

Delhi is under a yellow alert for July 10. The weather agency has predicted light to moderate showers and thunderstorms, with a generally cloudy sky expected to prevail. Rain intensity is likely to reduce slightly from July 11 onward.

Himachal Pradesh continues to face weather disruptions, as a yellow alert remains in place for six districts including Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu until next Monday. The state has witnessed a spike in rain-related incidents such as flash floods and cloudbursts. Since the monsoon onset, over 30 flash floods and 22 cloudbursts have been reported, with roads blocked, water supply schemes disrupted, and dozens of people reported missing.

In Uttarakhand, an orange alert has been issued for four districts, including Dehradun and Nainital. A cloudburst near Chamoli district’s Mukh village has triggered rapid response from the State Disaster Response Force. A bridge in Uttarkashi was swept away due to a surge in the Yamunotri river, while heavy rainfall continues to impact Rudraprayag and surrounding regions.

Southern West Bengal, including Kolkata, was hit by heavy downpours on July 9, causing waterlogging in several areas. According to the IMD, a low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal is moving westward and is expected to trigger more heavy rain across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh.

Elsewhere, multiple states including Gujarat, Odisha, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh remain under orange alerts. East Rajasthan and parts of Madhya Pradesh are expected to witness very heavy rainfall through July 11. The IMD has predicted sustained moderate to heavy rainfall across Konkan, Goa, the Ghats of Maharashtra, and Saurashtra-Kutch over the coming days. The Northeast region will continue to receive widespread showers, while coastal Karnataka and Kerala are also forecast to remain rain-soaked through the week.

As the monsoon intensifies across the country, the IMD has cautioned about thunderstorms, lightning, and strong surface winds, with speeds expected to reach up to 50 kmph in some regions. The situation remains fluid, and state administrations are on alert for any sudden weather-related disruptions.
