Lucknow Navy Museum Expansion Gets Water Body and Ship Replicas

Lucknow’s Navy Museum in Gomti Nagar Extension will be expanded with a water body, naval ship replicas, boating facilities and immersive digital exhibits after the Uttar Pradesh cabinet approved the proposal. The project, planned in three phases, is scheduled for completion in 2027.

The cabinet cleared the use of 6.8 acres adjoining the existing museum complex for the water body. The land will be transferred by the Lucknow Development Authority to the tourism department for a token payment of Rs 1 lakh, according to the report. The expansion project began in 2025.

The proposed water-based attractions will include replicas of naval ships, boating facilities and light and sound shows. The museum expansion will also feature displays on marine biodiversity and aquatic life, extending the attraction beyond a conventional collection of naval artefacts.

A Curation and Experience Centre is planned as part of the project. It will include digital galleries, audiovisual presentations, interactive exhibits and simulations covering India’s maritime journey, from ancient trade to modern naval operations and indigenous defence technology.

Tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said the initiative was intended to make history, science and technology more engaging for younger visitors. He also said the project was expected to support local employment and tourism-linked businesses.

The expansion will introduce ticketed entry to the museum, with concessions for students and schoolchildren. This will create a formal visitor-access and revenue model for the expanded attraction while retaining a lower-cost option for educational groups.

The project adds a new tourism and public-recreation destination to Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar Extension, where the existing museum complex will be connected to the proposed water-based facilities. Its implementation will depend on the planned transfer of land, the execution of the three project phases and completion of the experience centre by 2027.
