This pivotal milestone signifies that 100 per cent of the city’s substantial daily waste generation, exceeding 2000 metric tons, is now scientifically processed, definitively eradicating the practice of landfill dumping.

Previously operating with two units handling approximately 1300 metric tons, this third, indigenously developed unit ensures the complete and scientific processing of all household, commercial, and market waste generated within the city limits on a daily basis. Such integrated capacity is fundamental to sustaining the ‘zero waste’ mandate.
Beyond processing current waste streams, the initiative has also tackled the daunting challenge of legacy waste. A mere two years prior, the Shivri site bore the burden of an colossal 18.5 lakh metric tons of accumulated refuse. Through sustained, advanced eco-friendly waste management techniques, approximately 13 lakh metric tons of this historical waste have already undergone scientific processing. This dramatic reclamation of land and resources vividly illustrates the city’s commitment to reversing historical environmental degradation and championing sustainable practices over conventional dumping. The innovative technologies deployed at the new unit convert waste into valuable recyclable materials and other eco-friendly products, significantly easing pressure on existing land resources while concurrently enhancing local air and water quality.
