L&T Posts Record ₹1.47 Lakh Crore Order Intake, Flags Water Delays

Larsen & Toubro reported record quarterly order intake of ₹1.47 lakh crore in the second quarter of FY 2027, while net profit rose 33 per cent year on year to ₹5,202 crore, highlighting strong demand across infrastructure, energy and other project businesses.

The company’s net profit increased from ₹3,926 crore in the same quarter last year. Operating revenue grew 16 per cent to ₹78,750 crore during the quarter, while lower finance costs, treasury income and improved working capital efficiency also supported the increase in earnings. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation remained largely flat at ₹6,845 crore.

Order intake increased 28 per cent from the year-earlier period. More than half of the new contracts came from the hydrocarbon and offshore energy business, with the company reporting a significant international component in these energy orders.

“The company has delivered a strong quarter in an everchanging geopolitical landscape. This performance reflects continued customer confidence and our ability to secure large and complex orders across sectors and geographies,” L&T chairman and managing director S N Subrahmanyan said in a statement.

He said focused execution across the company’s projects, products and manufacturing businesses had supported higher revenue growth. The order inflow gives L&T a substantial project pipeline across sectors that include energy and infrastructure, although the company also identified specific execution and funding risks.

L&T president and whole-time director for finance R Shankar Raman said project opportunities worth ₹10 lakh crore were available in domestic and international markets. The company remains optimistic about maintaining its order-win rate during the second half of the financial year, he said.

Water supply projects are currently the main area facing execution challenges, according to Raman. Projects worth ₹40,000 crore are experiencing funding delays from state governments. The disclosure points to the role of public financing and state-level disbursement in determining how quickly civic infrastructure projects move from award to construction and revenue recognition.

The company said it remained confident of protecting revenue and margins, although ongoing tensions in West Asia and higher freight and raw-material costs could create a lag. Subramanian Sarma, L&T’s deputy managing director, said tensions in Saudi Arabia had not affected the company’s project sites and that all employees were safe.

Sarma cautioned that a prolonged crisis could lead to the deferral of some revenue. “We will have to wait and see,” he said.

The company’s quarterly performance therefore combines a record order pipeline with project-level risks linked to government funding, geopolitics and input costs. L&T’s management has not announced a change to its execution outlook and said the company would continue to pursue opportunities during the second half of FY 2027.
