LMC Begins Waste Collection Drive

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has started collecting segregated waste from households in Gomtinagar areas on a pilot basis to effectively manage solid waste in the city.

The civic body has first targeted 200 houses in Gomtinagar areas such as Vipul Khand, Viram Khand, and Virat Khand, where around 100 employees were deployed to collect waste.

LMC environment engineer Sanjeev Pradhan said, “The collected biodegradable waste such as food waste, kitchen waste and plant waste are being put-up in a temporary Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) centre to make compost out of it.”

Non-biodegradable waste materials like bottles, polybags, hard plastic to be sent to Shivri Solid Waste Management Plant from where it will be sent to recycling units. Around 2,000 mt of waste is generated in the city daily and through this drive it will help in not only effective treatment of solid waste, but also garbage vehicles will take less rounds to Shivri which reduces air pollution.
