Kolkata is heading into another unsettled monsoon week, with a low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal expected to sustain rain and thunderstorms across the city and wider South Bengal. The India Meteorological Department’s city forecast indicates that Kolkata and surrounding areas can expect cloudy conditions with rain or thundershowers through the coming days. The outlook for Kolkata includes periods of light to moderate rain, while thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also possible.The latest weather system has developed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and is influencing conditions across eastern India. Its effects are not confined to Kolkata. Several parts of South Bengal are also expected to receive rain, with isolated heavy spells possible in districts including South 24-Parganas, East and West Midnapore and Jhargram.For Kolkata, the immediate concern is less about rainfall alone and more about how quickly the city can absorb and move stormwater.
