Kolkata Property Tax Payment Stalls as KMC Server Remains Down

Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s property tax payment service has reportedly remained disrupted for around 12 to 14 days, leaving residents unable to complete payments either online or at the civic body’s Treasury Building, according to a report by Sanmarg – Kolkata.

Residents travelling to the KMC central office to pay property tax have reportedly been asked to return later after being informed that the server was down. The disruption has affected people who first attempted to make payments online but faced technical difficulties, prompting them to visit the municipal office in person.

Sanmarg – Kolkata reported that its team visited the Treasury Building to assess the situation. Residents from different parts of the city were present at the office while attempting to deposit their property tax. Some told the publication that they had travelled from distant areas but were still unable to move the payment process forward.

According to the report, security personnel at the Treasury Building were informing visitors about the server problem and advising them to return after the Puja period. The report does not specify whether the disruption is limited to the online payment platform, the Treasury Building’s payment system or a wider KMC property tax network.

Property tax is a recurring municipal obligation for owners and occupiers liable to pay the levy. When a digital payment system is unavailable and the corresponding counter service cannot process payments, residents can be forced to make repeated trips to civic offices. In this case, the reported disruption has affected both residents who attempted online payment and those who travelled to the KMC headquarters for an in-person transaction.

The report also does not state whether KMC has issued a public notice, provided an alternative payment channel, extended any deadline or clarified how residents will be treated if delays lead to penalties or other payment-related consequences. These details remain important for citizens trying to complete their tax obligations while the service is unavailable.

Residents cited in the report have called for the municipal corporation to resolve the technical problem quickly and restore normal property tax payment services. The supplied report does not include a response from KMC officials or a confirmed timeline for restoration.
