Kolkata Motorcycle Collision Kills Two on Narrow Nonadanga Road

Two young men died and two others were injured after two motorcycles collided head-on on Nonadanga Road near Sabuj Pally in Kolkata’s Anandapur area around 10pm on Monday, police said. The crash took place on a narrow stretch of road where both motorcycles were travelling in opposite directions at high speed.

Police said none of the four people riding the two motorcycles was wearing a helmet. All four were taken to Fortis Hospital after the collision.

Raja Naiya, 18, a resident of Nonadanga, and Aman Patwa, 23, from West Chowbaga, were declared dead at the hospital, according to the report. The two injured riders were identified as Abhijit Sil, 18, from Nonadanga, and Sayan Roy, 21, from West Chowbaga.

Sayan Roy remained in hospital after the incident. The report did not provide details about the nature of his injuries or the condition of Abhijit Sil.

The crash occurred under the jurisdiction of Anandapur police station. Police have identified the road’s narrow width, the alleged speed of the motorcycles and the absence of helmets among the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The incident brings together two immediate road-safety risks identified by police: unsafe speed on a constrained urban road and failure to use protective headgear. The available report does not state whether any further police action, traffic restrictions or investigation findings have been announced.
