The Ministry of Railways has entrusted the General Manager of Eastern Railway with the added charge of overseeing Metro Railway in Kolkata, according to official railway communications issued on Monday. The development arrives as multiple metro corridors across the metropolitan region continue to move through construction, integration and operational scaling stages.The leadership adjustment is significant because Kolkata Metro expansion has become central to the city’s long-term transport and climate resilience strategy.
