Kolkata flights will increase significantly ahead of the Durga Puja and winter travel rush, with SpiceJet, IndiGo, Emirates and Akasa Air announcing additional services and higher frequencies on domestic and international routes.
SpiceJet will add 22 special flights from October 10, connecting Kolkata with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bagdogra and Port Blair. The additional services are planned for the Puja period and the subsequent festive travel rush, when Kolkata typically sees increased movement of families travelling into the city and residents heading out for holidays.
Bagdogra will also receive additional connections with Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata. SpiceJet will operate a Mumbai-Port Blair service via Kolkata, allowing passengers to remain on the same aircraft rather than changing planes.
“Durga Puja is one of the most important times of the year for Kolkata, when the city comes alive and families travel from across the country to be together,” Debojo Maharshi, chief business officer of SpiceJet, said. “We are adding 22 special flights to give passengers more choice and to make it easier to travel to Kolkata and Bagdogra during the festive season.”
IndiGo, which currently operates more than 110 daily departures from Kolkata, is also planning to increase its services. The airline is reintroducing flights to Shanghai and Siem Reap, while a new service to Singapore is scheduled to begin on October 1.
On domestic routes, IndiGo plans to add frequencies to Port Blair, Varanasi, Delhi, Chennai and Guwahati. It will also increase capacity on flights connecting Kolkata with Surat. The additions will expand options for both festive travel and connections between eastern India, other Indian cities and overseas destinations.
Emirates is increasing its Kolkata operations during the winter schedule. Its weekly frequency will rise from 11 flights to 12, and all Emirates aircraft operating from Kolkata will offer Premium Economy seats in their configuration.
Akasa Air is set to raise its daily departures from Kolkata from the current 10-11 to 17 from October 25. The airline currently operates two daily flights to Mumbai and one daily flight to Navi Mumbai. Under the expanded schedule, it will operate four daily flights to Mumbai, an additional Mumbai service on alternate days and two daily flights to Navi Mumbai.
The announcements come as airlines prepare for a period of concentrated demand around Durga Puja and the winter travel season. The planned services cover key domestic destinations, tourist and island routes, regional links through Bagdogra, and international connections to Southeast Asia, China and the Gulf. The schedules will be introduced in stages, beginning with IndiGo’s Singapore service on October 1, followed by SpiceJet’s special flights from October 10 and Akasa Air’s expanded departures from October 25.
