The agreement brings together a public-sector fuel retailer with an electric mobility infrastructure developer to establish fast-charging and battery-swapping facilities at selected fuel stations across the country. The deployment will begin in phases over the next 18 to 24 months, focusing initially on high-volume freight routes connecting key industrial and commercial centres. Officials associated with the programme indicated that the infrastructure model could be expanded to additional corridors as commercial demand grows.
Although Kolkata is not part of the first deployment phase, urban transport planners believe eastern India’s logistics ecosystem stands to benefit as electric freight technology matures.
