Beyond its immediate objective, the campaign highlights a broader effort to address recurring urban challenges such as waste management, waterlogging and public hygiene that directly affect city residents and local economies.
The initiative extends beyond ceremonial preparations by placing renewed attention on municipal maintenance in markets, transport hubs, neighbourhood streets and public gathering areas. Officials have indicated that the campaign is intended to evolve into a sustained programme rather than ending after the scheduled six days. Urban development specialists note that maintaining clean public spaces throughout the year is increasingly critical as cities face higher population density, changing climate conditions and greater pressure on civic infrastructure.The cleanliness drive also coincides with pre-monsoon maintenance work across several districts. Civic agencies are accelerating the desilting of drains and canals to reduce flooding risks during heavy rainfall while inspecting public utilities that could pose safety hazards during wet weather.
