Kochi Spice Coast Marathon Draws 8,000, But Event Date Needs Clarification

The Kochi Spice Coast Marathon drew more than 8,000 participants across full marathon, half marathon and family fun run categories, according to a report by the Times of India. The event was organised by Soles of Cochin and hosted by Kochi Corporation with support from the city police.

Participants ranged in age from five to 93, with runners attending from different parts of India and abroad. The organisers divided the event into a 42.2-km full marathon, a 21.1-km half marathon and a 5-km family fun run.

The family fun run accounted for more than 5,000 registrations. The half marathon had 2,506 participants, while 504 runners took part in the full marathon. Women represented 32% of the overall participation, and nearly 60% of participants were first-time entrants in the event, the report said.

The marathon also involved a public-safety and policing component. Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Rawat administered an anti-narcotics pledge to participants as part of Operation Toofan. The report did not provide details of the operational arrangements used to manage traffic, road access or emergency services during the race.

The full marathon was flagged off at 3.30am by Kochi deputy mayor V R Sudheer and Walkaroo managing director V Noushad. The half marathon began at 4.30am, while the family fun run was scheduled for 6.30am. Mayor V Minimol and senior police officers participated in the flag-off ceremony, according to the report.

Rahul from Kanpur won the men’s open category in the full marathon, followed by Sanju Joseph and Deepu S Nair. Juliya Johny won the women’s category, with Krishnaveni Sengottuvelu second and Angelin Joy third.

In the half marathon, Manoj R S finished first in the men’s category, followed by Sajith and Vishnu S. Rajalakshmi Swaminathan won the women’s category, followed by Geetanjali Gubbewad and Reena Manohar.

The event’s scale places it within Kochi’s wider civic and public-space ecosystem: a corporation-hosted road event requiring coordination between organisers, police, elected representatives and participants. However, the supplied report does not establish the exact date of the marathon. Its accompanying summary refers to the 2024 edition, while the source metadata dates the report to October 25, 2026. That discrepancy requires clarification before the event can be published as a time-specific news report.
