Kochi Metro Phase 2 Brings Traffic Curbs to Palarivattom

Traffic restrictions will begin on the SN Junction–St Martin’s Church stretch in Palarivattom from Thursday to enable piling work for Kochi Metro Phase 2, affecting vehicles travelling from Edappally towards Kaloor. The restriction will prevent motorists from proceeding directly past St Martin’s Church through SN Junction during the construction activity.

Under the diversion plan, vehicles travelling towards Kaloor from Edappally will have to turn towards Palarivattom Junction at SN Junction, take a right turn there and continue onwards to Kaloor. The revised route is intended to keep traffic moving while Kochi Metro Rail Ltd carries out preliminary construction arrangements.

KMRL officials and the city police assistant commissioner jointly inspected the affected location before finalising the traffic management plan. The inspection focused on the road section that will be restricted for piling work connected with the second phase of the metro expansion.

KMRL is scheduled to begin preliminary arrangements for the road closure on Wednesday, ahead of the traffic restriction coming into effect on Thursday. The agency has asked commuters and other road users to cooperate with the temporary arrangements and follow the diversion route.

The restriction will directly affect the connection between Edappally, Palarivattom and Kaloor, three important parts of Kochi’s road network. Motorists using the SN Junction–St Martin’s Church stretch will need to account for the diversion and proceed through Palarivattom Junction instead of continuing directly towards Kaloor.

The report does not specify how long the restriction will remain in place. The traffic change is linked to piling work for Kochi Metro Phase 2, and further movement arrangements will depend on the construction activity at the site. KMRL and city police have finalised the plan after their joint inspection and have urged the public to follow the temporary instructions to avoid delays.
