Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has unveiled plans for an extensive canal-oriented beautification and development initiative spanning from Edachira to Brahmapuram bridge at Kakkanad.
This ambitious project, a cornerstone of Kochi Metro Phase II endeavours, is poised to redefine the urban landscape near Infopark and Smart City, encompassing a 1.2km stretch along the Infopark campus, commencing from Edachira Junction to the Brahmapuram bridge. The envisioned development entails a comprehensive overhaul of the infrastructure, including the enhancement of roads flanking the canal and the aesthetic enhancement of key junctions. Notably, the project encompasses the establishment of a robust stormwater drainage system and the construction of modern footpaths. Additionally, the endeavour encompasses the construction of utility ducts, cross drains, culverts, signage, road markings, and ancillary works. In the upcoming days, preparatory activities such as site surveys, geotechnical investigations, underground utility surveys, and road inspections for utility realignment are slated to be undertaken, underscoring KMRL’s commitment to meticulous planning and execution.
Furthermore, KMRL has embarked on similar canal-oriented development ventures across the city. Notably, tender invitations have been extended for the comprehensive revitalisation of the Market Canal as part of the Integrated Urban Regeneration and Water Transportation System (IURWTS) project. The scope of work encompasses a spectrum of activities ranging from canal deepening and shore protection to horticultural embellishments and electrical infrastructure enhancements. This concerted effort underscores KMRL’s steadfast commitment to holistic urban development and underscores its pivotal role in shaping Kochi’s evolving landscape.
