Kolkata’s infrastructure underwent a critical phase as the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) executed a comprehensive load test on the Chetla RCC Bridge over Tolly’s Nullah early Monday morning. The bridge closure, spanning approximately eight hours from 11 pm Sunday, facilitated the necessary evaluations aimed at assessing structural integrity and load-bearing capacity.
During the closure, traffic was redirected to alternative routes as officials conducted assessments on the bridge’s expansion joints and initiated plans for mechanized laying of mastic asphalt on its carriageway. The outcomes of the load test are anticipated to provide pivotal insights, guiding subsequent repair strategies. Furthermore, KMDA has outlined plans to extend repair and reinforcement efforts to several other bridges in Kolkata. A forthcoming meeting of the bridge advisory committee will convene shortly to strategize further actions based on the findings of these assessments.
