Kharghar-Turbhe Link Road (KTLR) officially began, setting the stage for a massive improvement in travel time and regional connectivity in Navi Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). With a budget of ₹2,099 crore, the project is expected to dramatically reduce the travel time between Turbhe and Kharghar from 40 minutes to just 10 minutes, benefiting daily commuters, tourists, and businesses alike.
The KTLR project, overseen by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), will alleviate traffic congestion along the Sion-Panvel highway and enhance east-west connectivity across Navi Mumbai. As the road progresses, it will provide a smoother and faster route for motorists traveling to key locations, including the upcoming Navi Mumbai airport and the Atal Setu bridge. The road design includes a 1.8-kilometer twin tunnel through Kharghar Hill and a 3.4-kilometer elevated viaduct. The route will begin at Turbhe, running parallel to the Sion-Panvel highway and continue through the tunnels under Kharghar Hill before reaching Central Park in Kharghar. This will significantly reduce traffic delays and create more direct connections to vital commercial areas such as Taloja’s industrial zones and Mumbai’s CIDCO golf course. An additional 1.5-kilometer elevated road will link Central Park to Taloja’s central jail, while a subway will connect the area to a proposed international corporate park.
Local officials are confident that the KTLR will have a profound impact on the region. “Motorists will save at least 30 minutes of travel time, which will not only benefit daily commuters but also support economic growth in the area,” said a CIDCO official. Once the KTLR is completed in 2028, it will provide improved access to residential, commercial, and industrial hubs in Navi Mumbai, making it easier for people to travel between the rapidly growing regions of Kharghar, Taloja, and beyond. The project is expected to boost the local economy, ease transportation challenges, and promote further development in Navi Mumbai. Residents, especially those in Mumbai and Thane, are eagerly anticipating the completion of the road, which will open up new avenues for business, tourism, and local transport. The beginning of construction marks a new chapter in the ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and connectivity in the MMR, with significant long-term benefits for the region’s economy and its residents.
